Introducing two new educational programs from the International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI)
Article Outline
The Nursing Committee of the International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI), in the spirit of the goal of the ISBI to share information and expertise in the care and treatment of burn injuries, began discussions in 2002 related to the need to develop educational and training programs for professionals caring for burn patients which could be easily accessed around the world. The intent of this educational material is to provide basic information on burn care and associated topics and not to provide specific advice for individual programs or patients. Following initial discussion, it was decided that the best way to provide this information would be to post the individual topics on the Education page of the ISBI web site (http://www.worldburn.org/).
The Committee published the initial four articles in December of 2004 including: Burn Care in the Hospital, Care of Outpatient Burns, Pain Management, and Infection Control. We now have two additional articles, which are published in this issue including Practical Guidelines for Nutritional Management of Burn Injury and Recovery and Respiratory Management of Inhalation Injury.
We hope that you find these topics useful and would encourage any feedback on them. Comments can be sent to Joan Weber, Chair of the Nursing Committee of the ISBI (jweber@partners.org). In addition, we welcome any suggestions for other topics for development to add to these six topics.
